Attention, all aspiring academics and researchers! The National Testing Agency (NTA) is gearing up to kickstart the registration process for the UGC NET (University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test) June 2024 session. The official notification is expected to be released anytime now, so it’s time to start preparing.
For the uninitiated, the UGC NET is a major exam that determines the eligibility of the Indian nationals for the coveted positions of ‘Assistant Professor’ and ‘Junior Research Fellowship and an Assistant Professor‘ in universities and colleges across the country. The test is conducted on 83 different subjects, and it’s entirely computer-based.
Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?
The eligibility criteria for the UGC NET June 2024 are as follows:
General/General-EWS/Unreserved candidates must have secured at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree or an equivalent examination.
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD, and Third Gender candidates must have secured at least 50% marks in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
Candidates pursuing their Master’s degree or awaiting their final results can also apply, but they’ll be admitted provisionally. To be eligible for the JRF/Assistant Professor positions, they’ll need to secure the required percentage of marks within two years of the NET result.
PhD degree holders whose Master’s level examination was completed by September 19, 1991, can avail of a 5% relaxation in the aggregate marks (from 55% to 50%).
Candidates are advised to appear for the test on the subject of their post-graduation. If your PG subject is not covered in the list of the NET subjects, then you can appear in a related subject.
