Children from less privileged backgrounds often face educational setbacks due to the high costs of accessing necessary learning materials.

The journey to excel in competitive exams requires a wealth of study aids and books, which can be a significant barrier.

In Sector 15 of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, a beacon of hope exists for such students: a library offering book loans at the nominal fee of Rs 120.

This community library welcomes students gearing up for competitive examinations. Reports indicate that 45 and 50 students utilize its resources annually to become officers successfully.

Established in 2002 by Mahesh Saxena, the Noida Public Library stands out as the district’s sole library dedicated to serving students, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

With a modest membership fee of Rs 120, the Noida Public Library provides an essential service in Gautam Buddh Nagar.

It attracts nearly 280 aspirants preparing for entrance and competitive exams each year. Last year, according to Saxena, 52 of its patrons secured employment and entered job training programs.

The library houses an impressive collection of around 80,000 books covering various subjects and religious topics. The generosity of local students, who donate their books after completing their exams, significantly contributes to this vast repository.

The library staff meticulously curates the collection to ensure that only the most beneficial books are available, returning the rest.

Despite its significant impact, the Noida Public Library receives less government support than public libraries in areas like Delhi. Given Noida’s dense population, with a seating capacity of 280 students, the library is often stretched to its limits.

Efforts to secure additional funding and support from local authorities have yet to yield results. However, the library continues to thrive thanks to the unwavering support from the community it serves.
