PM Vishwakarma Yojana: 144 Beneficiaries are being trained as Garland Makers at Korba’s Livelihood College
Under the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, an initiative is being taken to empower the skilled artisans of the country and give a new dimension to their traditional works. Under this scheme, 144 beneficiaries are being trained as garland makers at the Livelihood College in Korba district.
The objective of this scheme is to connect traditional artisans with modern technology and new opportunities, so that they can become self-reliant and generate new means of employment.
Objectives of the scheme
The main objective of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana is to provide assistance to those artisans and workers who are doing the work that has been traditionally going on in their families.
Under this scheme, artisans are not only being given technical training, but they are also being provided financial assistance. Through this, they get a chance to convert their skills into employment.
Highlights of the training in Korba:
Selection Process:
Out of a total of 214 applicants, 144 beneficiaries were selected for training after level three verification.
Stipend and facilities:
During the training, beneficiaries are being given a stipend of Rs.500 per day.
A tool kit worth Rs.15,000 will also be provided after the completion of the training.
Loan facility:
After the training, beneficiaries will get a loan of up to Rs.1 lakh.
If the beneficiaries repay this loan in 18 months, they will become eligible for a loan of up to Rs.3 lakh.
Objective of the training:
To combine the traditional work of garlands, bouquets, and decoration with advanced technology and modern design.
To prepare the beneficiaries from a business perspective.

“I am being taught the work of making garlands and bouquets here. This training is very beneficial for me. Under the scheme, I will get a loan of up to Rs.1 lakh, with which I will start my own business.”
Rameshwari Rai (beneficiary):
“I already have experience of making garlands, but here I am learning to make garlands in different ways. After training, I will get a tool kit and loan, so that I can do my work on a larger scale.”
Role of administration:
According to Arunendra Mishra, Principal of Livelihood College, the scheme is being implemented smoothly. There is a provision to provide financial help along with skills to the beneficiaries, so that they can take their business towards self-reliance.
